Housing Projects

Each summer, AUF, Inc. sponsors building projects for youth and adults who partner with and live with families in Guasmo Sur. We do new house construction and renovations. When we build a new house, it is done in two years: year one is the rough construction including, walls, roof, electrical and plumbing installation. 

Year two is the finish work including, doors, windows, ceramic floors and paint. 

Participants spend the work week living with a host family. The host family works on the building project with the participant and each evening shares community activities such as soccer games, cultural presentations, dinners, talent shows and movies. The Ecuadorian community and North American participants share the responsibility of planning these activities. 

Each participant signs a covenant of support and pledges to raise the funds for the trip.This fee covers all airfare and transportation expenses. A substantial portion goes to purchase supplies for the building projects.

To date we have built 28 individual bathrooms, sponsored more than 30 total house builds and 30 renovations. We have built a three-story community center that houses the organization Mi Cometa and re-cemented the soccer field.
