CASF - AUF's Educational Program
Creación de alumnos sin fronteras (CASF) is AUF’s educational scholarship/tutoring program. The CASF program currently sponsors 45 K-12 students in Guasmo Sur, Ecuador. Although public education is technically free in Ecuador, there are still costs associated with schooling that are difficult for families to manage, such as uniforms, textbooks, school materials, and matriculation fees.
In addition to receiving a stipend to offset the costs of education in Ecuador, CASF students also attend our after-school tutoring and enrichment program. We utilize a “thematic” curriculum designed to enhance what students are learning in their schools, with special emphasis placed on the areas that receive little or no focus in the public system, such as art, geography, and health. Students receiving scholarships are expected to maintain what is equivalent to a “C” average in all of their classes and participate in a number of community events and activities throughout the year.
If you are interested in sponsoring one of our students, a full-year scholarship costs $450, while a half-year scholarship costs $225.
Three young adults from the Guasmo Sur community teach at CASF. Kristel Noboa, Alvaro Paja, and Daniel Lucio form our teaching team and all three participate in a work-study program through AUF, Inc. If you are interested in supporting our teachers, their expenses range from $100 to $3000.
If you would like to support our educational programs with a one-time or recurring donation, you can do it on our secure server.
Teachers and college students majoring in education may inquire about internship opportunities within CASF. Please contact Christine at email@example.com for more information.
In August 2020, we will host our third “Education Project” in Ecuador. Participants will stay with host families in Guasmo Sur and work closely with the students in our CASF program, as well as students and teachers at local community schools. Check back soon for more information about our 2020 Education Project.
